3. WHOLES IN SPACE: ENTITIES

While cycles structure the processes of existence in time, existence manifests spatially in wholes — limited fields of interrelated functional activities. Wholes are "cyclocosms"; they have boundaries in time (a life-cycle or span of existence) and in space (cosmos = a life-field).
Integrating the multiplicity of elements and functions of all existential wholes is a principle of unity, ONE or SELF (Rudhyar normally uses these words with all letters capitalized). In The Planetarization of Consciousness, he calls it the Principle of Wholeness and likens it to the Hindu principle atman: in itself ONE is nothing (no thing) and does nothing, yet without it nothing (no whole) could exist.
